ICMA-RC founded the Vantagepoint Public Employee Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2001 to honor the lives of our Nation's police officers, firefighters, and other local and state government employees who have died in the line of duty.
The Fund is an effort to provide the surviving spouses and children of these employees who have given so much to their communities, financial assistance in education as they move forward with their lives.
Scholarships in amounts of up to $10,000 are awarded to full-time students who plan to attend a two- to four-year accredited college, university, or vocational school. To date, over 160 scholarships worth more than $500,000 have been awarded through the fund.
Each year, scholarship recipients are invited to Washington, DC for a special awards dinner hosted by ICMA-RC. In 2007, U.S. Fire Administrator Gregory Cade provided the keynote address.
The Scholarship Fund is a Section 501(c)(3) public charity. The Fund's Board of Directors manages and oversees the eligibility and award selection process. Scholarships are managed and administered through three partnering organizations: Scholarship America, Concerns of Police Survivors, Inc. (COPS), and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).
